Introducing Indonesian culture to children can begin with simple and enjoyable activities. To celebrate National Batik Day on October 2, 2026, preschool students at Saint Monica Jakarta School Kelapa Gading participated in a variety of activities designed to help them learn about and appreciate batik as one of Indonesia’s cultural heritage treasures.
The celebration began with a group prayer, followed by an introduction to the origins and history of batik. Through explanations tailored to their age, the children learned that batik is more than just patterned clothing. It is also an important part of Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage that deserves to be preserved and passed down to future generations.
The children had the opportunity to experiment with creating patterns and combining colors. This activity encouraged them to express their creativity, develop hand coordination, and build confidence as they explored different artistic possibilities.
The celebration became even more lively with a batik fashion parade. The students proudly showcased their outfits, featuring a variety of batik patterns and colors. Through this activity, the children were able to appreciate the beauty of batik while learning to present themselves confidently in front of their teachers and classmates.
In addition to providing an enjoyable experience, National Batik Day also offered an opportunity for students to learn to appreciate the different patterns and designs of batik as part of Indonesia’s diverse cultural heritage.
For Saint Monica Jakarta School Kelapa Gading, introducing children to culture from an early age is an important part of character education. Through activities that encourage creativity and hands-on learning, children can begin to understand their cultural identity while developing their social skills and self-confidence.
Through this National Batik Day celebration, the school hopes to nurture a love for Indonesian culture from an early age, helping children recognize batik not only as traditional clothing but also as a valuable cultural heritage that must be preserved for future generations.
